Course Overview

Pre-requisites: Successful completion of AFTT’s CUA51020 (or CUA51015) Diploma of Screen and Media in the industry focus of FILM

Following the successful completion of AFTT’s Diploma of Screen and Media in the Industry focus of FIlm, the student is invited to apply for admission into AFTT’s Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media, a cohesive production based learning environment utilising high end production equipment such as ARRI and RED cameras. Credit transfer is then applied to successful applicants, allowing them to complete one further year of training to be awarded their Advanced Diploma. The 16 units which comprise this course extend the skills and knowledge developed throughout the Diploma and prepare students to enter the industry as independent and highly skilled professional working artists.

Tier 3: Deepening of the Craft

This is where the transition to becoming a professional filmmaker really starts to take form.

Students will build upon knowledge already gained in the Diploma to deepen their relationship with story, production, sound design, and cinematography. This will be achieved through the creation of numerous film productions.

By the completion of Tier 3, students will have had the experience of discovering what their influences are as filmmakers and artists through a well-crafted creativity project that fuses outside influences with their ever-strengthening sense of self within the craft of filmmaking.

From Tier 3 onwards, students will work with the latest technology on every project – including the RED camera systems along with the full range of kit room equipment.

Tier 4: The Truth is in Doing

Tier 4 is designed to escalate students into the industry with a now developed sense of individuality and confidence.

By Tier 4, students will understand the process of screen production; have an advanced knowledge of how to use the tools at their disposal, and will have considered their own voice and the sort of work their soul wants to make. Students are given conceptual and artistic freedom to create a script for their Major Project which is then carefully crafted in a collaborative environment by industry experts. This Major Production will demonstrates the skills learned during previous tiers, and will spring board opportunities once graduated.
