Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualized plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

Course Structure

The following 13 units are to be completed:
Core
  1. CHCCCS015 Provide individualized support 
  2. CHCCCS023 Support independence and wellbeing 
  3. CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services 
  4. CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people 
  5. CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically 
  6. HLTAAP001 Recognize healthy body systems 
  7. HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Elective

  1. CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people 
  2. CHCCCS011 Meet personal support needs 
  3. CHCAGE005 Provide support to people living with dementia 
  4. CHCAGE002 Implement falls prevention strategies 
  5. HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures 
  6. CHCCCS025 Support relationships with carers and families

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements
Must have completed at least the equivalent of Year 11.
Minimum Age to Apply
International students must be at least 18 years of age
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum)
These students must also have an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 or equivalent (test results must be no more than 2 years old).

Students must also participate in a course entry interview to demonstrate their suitability for the course.

International Students may not be required to provide evidence of English Language competence where documented evidence can be provided to demonstrate any of the following:   

the student was educated for 5 years in an English speaking country.  
the student has completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO. 
the student has successfully completed an English Placement Test.  
the student has successfully completed a foundation course in Australia 
the student has successfully completed their High School in English Language.

Internship or Work Placement

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Students must undergo police clearance and required vaccination/immunisations before the placement which will be at the student’s own cost.
