This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing.

Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

Course Structure

The following 16 units are included in this course, and all are required to complete 13 core units and 3 elective units for the award of the qualification. You can choose a specialisation for this qualification.

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements	Have completed the equivalent of Year 12. Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs. This will also include an LLN assessment and you must achieve ACSF 4 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course.
Minimum Age to Apply	Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.

IELTS Score (Minimum)	Have an IELTS score of 5.5 (test results must be no more than 2 years old) Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. You are required to provide your results so that we can confirm they are equivalent to IELTS 5.5.
English Language Requirements	English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following: Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or Completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO; or Successful completion of an English Placement Test.

Potential employment options are as a as a direct support worker in aged care, disability, home and community care or other direct care work in the community services industry.

Internship or Work Placement

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
