Course Overview

This course is is specifically designed to give you the right skills and knowledge to work with people, and assist them in seeking solutions to a range of personal and social issues. Community Services Workers work in many aspects of people’s lives and may work with children and families, senior citizens, those living with disabilities, those suffering drug and alcohol dependency, those living with a mental illness and other areas within the community.

Course Structure

This course will require the completion of 13 units including 8 core units and 5 elective units.

  1. CHCMHS010 Implement recovery oriented approaches to complexity 
  2. CHCMHS012 Provide support to develop wellness plans and advanced directives 
  3. CHCMHS013 Implement trauma informed care 
  4. HLTWHS004 Manage work health and safety
  5. CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice 
  6. CHCADV005 Provide systems advocacy services 
  7. CHCMHS009 Provide early intervention, health prevention and promotion programs 
  8. CHCPOL003 Research and apply evidence to practice 
  9. CHCDEV001 Confirm client developmental status 
  10. CHCCSM005 Develop, facilitate and review all aspects of case management 
  11. CHCCSL002 Apply specialist interpersonal and counselling interview skills 
  12. CHCEDU001 Provide community focused health promotion and prevention strategies 
  13. CHCAOD006 Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues

Admission Requirements
Minimum Age to Apply
Must be 18 years or older
Academic Entry Requirements
Hold a current CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health.

Relevant to work in the community sector or have sufficient experience and knowledge of community work or service.
All students must undertake the following:
Working with Children Check
Criminal Record Check
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum)
Upper intermediate level of English (IELTS Score of 5.5 or equivalent)

Internship or Work Placement
