Course Overview

The Graduate Certificate in TESOL is a course designed for prospective teachers wishing to teach English to speakers of other languages. The course consists of 4 core subjects which prepares students for a variety of language teaching contexts in Australia and overseas. It integrates current theory and practice of TESOL, including teaching methodologies, programming and planning, and linguistics for language teaching. King’s Own Institute works closely with other language teaching providers in Sydney to organise practicum placements, access current industry trends, resources and expertise in teaching methodology, and to identify resources and trends in the field. The course includes a supervised practicum.

The course also provides the foundation for students wanting to progress to the Graduate Diploma in TESOL or the Master of Arts (TESOL).

Course Structure

The Graduate Certificate in TESOL requires the following 4 units to be completed:

Trimester One:

  1. TSL700 Language Teaching Methodologies
  2. TSL701 Linguistics for Language Teaching
  3. TSL702 Learning an Additional Language
  4. TSL704 TESOL Curriculum Development

Australian Bachelor degree (3 years) (AQF Level 7)
or overseas equivalent.
Minimum Age to Apply KOI does not enrol students under 18 years of age.
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) Minimum overall score of 7.0 with no band less than 6.5
