hy Automotive Trade Recognition is Important!

If you, or your employees, have many years of experience but no formal qualifications, did you know trade certification is essential to:

Employ an apprentice and apply for federally-based incentives

Have an international employee recognised with an Australian qualification

Instil consumer trust in your business

Apply to become an approved inspection station examiner

Apply for a job where a formal qualification is a pre-requisite

Help with staff upskilling (essential for job satisfaction and retention)

Apply for a job where you want to be a preferred candidate.

MTA Institute may assist you in achieving a Trade Qualification by formally assessing your skills and work experience against industry and educational requirements through either a Government subsidised program, or if ineligible, our Fee for Service (non-subsidised) program might be more suitable.

MTA Institute is a Skills Assure Supplier for the Government subsidised – Trade Skills Assessment and Gap Training Program.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Government subsidised – Trade Skills Assessment and Gap Training Program

Individuals must have the skills and knowledge to successfully complete a minimum of 60 per cent of the units of competency in a priority trade qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Therefore, individuals will require gap training in no more 40 per cent of units of competency for that trade qualification.

Applicants must also meet the following eligibility criteria:

Be 21 years of age or over;

Permanently reside in Queensland

Be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency (refer https://desbt.qld.gov.au/training/providers/inclusive/visa-eligibility); or a New Zealand citizen;

Have not previously completed a trade qualification in the same industry area, ie. a qualification within the same national training package;

Currently not be an apprentice or trainee;

Express a commitment to gain the entire qualification.

Fee for Service (non-subsidised program)

Applicants are expected to:

Have the skills and knowledge to assume they can achieve competency for most of the units required for their proposed trade qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Have a minimum of 6 years’ full-time experience to undertake the trade recognition process for a Certificate III qualification and a minimum of 1 years’ full-time experience to undertake a Certificate II qualification.

Not be undertaking a publicly funded apprenticeship or traineeship.

Not be registered with any other registered training organisation.

Express a commitment to gain the entire qualification.

VENUE

Training and assessment is to be held at an MTA Institute approved automotive workshop. This may be your own workshop, your employer’s workshop and / or MTA Institute’s state of the art automotive workshop – Freeway Office Park, Building 8, 2728 Logan Road, Eight Mile Plains.

LENGTH

The nominal duration to complete a Trade Qualification will vary for each individual, depending on the individual’s previous experience (ie. acquired knowledge and skills) and the currency of the individual’s experience.

One or more units of competency, will require gap training and assessment where evidence to support potential competency is weak or perhaps non-existent.

DELIVERY

Upon submitting an application along with supporting documentation, the applicant will undergo an interview process with an MTA Institute assessor to gage the applicant’s level of skills and knowledge. A range of methods will then be applied to gap train and assess the individual. This includes written and oral questions / answers; and demonstration and observation of practical tasks.

FEE INFORMATION

Course costs will vary, depending on the qualification being undertaken; the amount of gap training that is required; individual circumstances; and whether the applicant is eligible for the Trade Skills Assessment and Gap Training Program.

Government subsidised

The Trade Skills Assessment and Gap Training (TSAGT) Program is mostly funded by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, however applicants are also required to pay minimal student co-contribution fees for any units of competency that require gap training – at a rate of $1.60 per nominal hour, or if applicable a concessional rate of $0.64 per nominal hour.

Fee for Service (non-subsidised program)

$5,000 (maximum) for Certificate III qualifications

$3,000 (maximum) for Certificate II qualifications

Total fees payable by the applicant for either the subsidised or non-subsidised programs will be determined once the individual’s application has been approved.
