Course Overview

This qualification reflects the job roles of workers in the accounting industry, including BAS Agents and contract bookkeepers; and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements and providing advice or dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements. Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously, and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.

Course Structure

This course has been designed to meet the requirements for the FNS40222 – Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. It contains 13 units of competency as follows:

  • 10 core units
  • 3 elective units

Academic Entry Requirements Students wishing to enrol in this qualification must have successful completion of Australian year 12 or equivalent.

Any overseas/international learner who scores below the minimum level in the tests mentioned above, must have undertaken, or agree to undertake, an English language programme (ELICOS) of at least 10 weeks’ duration.

Any overseas/international learner who has completed a certificate IV or above qualification in Australia in an English-medium institution, is deemed to have satisfied College English language proficiency requirements.  Proof of completion must be provided at the time of application.
OR 
Any on-shore learner who does not have an IELTS/TOEFL/ PTE Academic/Cambridge score, or Elicos certification, may satisfy College English language requirements, if at the time of their application, they can demonstrate a Core Skills Profile for Adults Level 3 or above, in the ACER English language, literacy and numeracy test.

Career Opportunities

The primary pathway from this qualification is employment in accounting job roles with duties such as:

  • completing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other office taxes*
  • operational reporting
  • producing non-complex management reports including compiling budget information
  • compiling data for job costing reports
  • supervising the operation of computer-based financial systems
  • classifying, recording and reporting accounting information

  • ensuring relevant legal requirements are adhered.

*Persons providing a BAS service for a fee or other reward (other than employees) must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB).
