Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as master diagnostic technicians the automotive service and repair industry; servicing, diagnosing and repairing vehicle electrical systems and components. A range of advanced electrical diagnostic skills and knowledge is necessary, and leadership and supervision of others would be expected. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

This course is designed for international students who will be involved in classroom training in a full-time capacity to gain the qualification. These students may come from different countries and cultural backgrounds and must hold a valid student visa.

Course Structure

Students need to complete 10 (ten) units of competency in total, including 1 core unit and 9 elective units:

Elective Units

  1. AURTTR101 Diagnose complex faults in engine management systems 
  2. AURTTA125 Diagnose complex faults in vehicle integrated stability control systems 
  3. AURLTX104 Diagnose complex faults in light vehicle automatic transmission and driveline systems 
  4. AURATA005 Estimate and quote automotive mechanical and electrical repairs 
  5. AURETR139 Diagnose complex faults in light vehicle in theft-deterrent systems 
  6. AURTTA017 Carry out vehicle safety inspections 
  7. AURETR137 Diagnose complex faults in light vehicle safety systems 
  8. AURTNA001 Estimate and quote automotive vehicle or machinery modifications 
  9. AURETR034 Develop and apply electrical system modifications

Academic Entry Requirements
Those undertaking Certificate IV in Automotive Electrical Technology must have completed AUR30320 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.

Completed year 12 (HSC or equivalent)
Minimum Age to Apply Must be 18 years of age or over
Language Requirement
English Language Requirements
Minimum 5.5 IELTS score or equivalent as per the following:
TOEFL iBT: 46
PTE Academic: 42
OET: B for each test component
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) 162

Internship or Work Placement

This qualification requires students to attend 24 hours per week of theory and practical training over a period of 24 weeks (576 hours) and work placement of 20 hours per week for 20 weeks (400 hours) allowing for 8 weeks term break.
