Course Structure

Qualification Overview

This qualification provides a general vocational outcome in amenity horticulture. It is NOT a suitable pathway for horticultural trades. No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication


Duration

This course will be delivered over 52 weeks including 6 weeks term breaks over the duration of the course.


Delivery Mode

Blended delivery - includes face to face instruction (classroom), self-directed learning, simulated training and final assessment including simulated, workplace and theory-based assessment

Award

To be eligible for the award of the AHC30716 Certificate III in Horticulture, learners must successfully complete a total of 16 units made up of 11 electives and 5 core units. Dependent on the elective units chosen you may be awarded a specialist area as follows: Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised qualification will be awarded a certificate for AHC30716 Certificate III in Horticulture A Statement of Attainment will be issued for any unit of competency deemed competent if the full qualification is not completed. Awards will be generated after successful completion of this course and full payment and a verified USI has been received.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Have you worked or studied in this field before? RPL allows you the opportunity to be recognised for skills, experience, and study that you may have already attained. To gain RPL you will need to contact the college for our RPL application that will guide you through the process of presenting your evidence to us. RPL will only be granted before the start of the course, or within the first two weeks of commencing the course. RPL can be applied for by overseas students with the following conditions:
  • You are still required to attend full-time study for the remaining course duration
  • Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is notified via PRISMS of the change of course duration
  • Revised confirmation of enrolment is issued to reflect the adjusted duration

There is a fee for the RPL service that is detailed in the RPL application

Credit Transfer

You may already have acquired several of the units of competency in this qualification from an earlier course you have completed. If so, you can claim credit for these units by providing original qualification transcripts or statements of attainment and completing a credit transfer application. As with an RPL application, your course duration will be varied and DHA will be notified via PRISMS

      • IELTS band score of overall 5.5 (Academic or General) or equivalent in line with the Department of Education and DIBP regulations (For International Students) for specific countries.

      • IELTS overall band score of 4.5 when packaged with at least 20 weeks' ELICOS
      • Pearson Test of English Academic – Score 42
      • Cambridge English: Advanced CAE from Cambridge ESOL Test Score
      • TOEFL Test of English as a Foreign Language paper-based test
      • CELS (all skills) Upper intermediate (English for Academic purposes) certificate from recognised English language centre
      • Senior secondary Certificate of Education completed in Australia
      • Certificate IV or higher completed in Australia
      • Tertiary studies in medium of English

  • Using pre-course English language assessment for Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing competencies within the Framework an assessment is made to determine applicant’s appropriate course placement as per their level of proficiency in the English language. Applicant’s learning and pathway building needs are also considered using LLN Robot https://quiz.llnrobot.com.au/ aligned to ACSF level 3 or higher for Certificate III & IV level courses and ACSF level 4 or higher for Diploma and Advanced Diploma level courses

Internship or Work Placement

Work placement is not a course completion requirement, but is organised by the college to enhance student's practical skills.

For work placement Wakefield International College has agreements in place with agricultural establishments to manage work placement opportunities with their contracted clients to suffice the work placement component of the following units of competency and exposure to the horticulture industry in SA increasing the chances of job opportunity

Horticulture courses are conducted in partnership with nurseries. By partnering with nurseries, we can deliver this course in an excellent working environment for learning and assessment.  As per the MOU signed with our nursery, we are able to ensure all students are exposed to a working environment (physical and human resources) to practice and apply skills and knowledge in line with the following units of competency:
