Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of pathology collectors. Workers in this role follow known routines and procedures, taking responsibility for their own work under general supervision. They combine communication, customer service and technical skills, and use discretion and judgment to adapt and transfer their skills to different situations.


Course Structure

The HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology Collection requires completion of the following 14 Units (including 9 core and 5 electives).

Core units

  3. HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  4. HLTPAT001 Identify and respond to clinical risks in pathology collection
  5. HLTPAT002 Perform venous blood collections
  6. HLTPAT004 Collect pathology specimens other than blood
  7. HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
  8. BSBCUS201 Deliver a service to customers
  9. BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Minimum Age to Apply The candidate must complete 18yrs of age or older at the time of course commencement
Academic Entry Requirements Australian Year 11 or an equivalent level of schooling or a Certificate III or Higher Qualification with an Australian Institution.

Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) The candidates needs to secure the English level of IELTLS 5.5, with no band less than 5.0
TOEFL-IBT Score (Minimum) To be eligible for this course students must have an minimum overall score of: 46

Internship or Work Placement

This qualification requires that, the learner completes a total of at least 35 hours of work placement, under the supervision of a person currently working in a Phlebotomist role, for at least 18 hours per fortnight.
