Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Course Structure

Participants need to complete 13 units of competency consisting of:

  • (7) Core Units
  • (6) Elective Units

Core Units

  1. CHCCCS015 Provide individualised support
  2. CHCCCS023 Support independence and well being (WORK BASED TRAINING)
  3. CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  4. CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  5. CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
  6. HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems
  7. HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Elective Units (Specialisation – Ageing)

  1. CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people
  2. CHCAGE005 Provide support to people living with dementia
  3. CHCCCS011 Meet personal support needs
  4. CHCCCS025 Support relationships with carers and families
  5. CHCHCS001 Provide home and community support services
  6. HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Elective Units (Specialisation - Disability)

  1. CHCDIS001 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
  2. CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports
  3. CHCDIS003 Support community participation and social inclusion
  4. CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability
  5. CHCHCS001 Provide home and community support services
  6. HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Academic Entry Requirements
It is highly recommended that students are currently in a workplace or have access to a workplace for this course.

For the Graduate Certificate program ,it is expected that participants will have completed the Certificate IV in Career Development OR have completed relevant undergraduate study OR can demonstrate the equivalent of 5 years of work in career development.
