Course Overview

This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.

To be able to achieve this qualification, students must successfully complete the following 20 units of competency:

Core Units:

  1. CPCCOM2001 Read and interpret plans and specifications
  2. CPCCCM2006 Apply basic levelling procedures
  3. CPCCCM2008* Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding
  4. CPCCOM1012 Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry
  5. CPCCOM1013 Plan and organise work
  6. CPCCOM1014 Conduct workplace communication
  7. CPCCOM1015 Carry out measurements and calculations
  8. CPCCSP2001* Handle solid plastering materials
  9. CPCCSP2002* Use solid plastering tools and equipment
  10. CPCCSP2003* Prepare surfaces for plastering
  11. CPCCSP3001* Apply float and render to straight and curved surfaces
  12. CPCCSP3002* Apply set coats
  13. CPCCSP3003* Apply trowelled texture coat finishes
  14. CPCCSP3004* Restore and renovate solid plasterwork

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements
Year 11 or equivalent;
Various Certificate II Construction qualifications or with limited or no vocational experience and without a lower level qualification
Language Requirement
English Language Requirements
IELTS Test Score of 5.0 overall (General or Academic) or

TOEFL iBT Test Score of 35 or

PTE Academic Test Score of 36 or

Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) Test Score of 154 or

OET Pass Grade B or

PCBT Certificate 3 in EAL

IELTS test score of 4.5 or equivalent with at least 10 weeks ELICOS

You may be exempted to provide evidence of English Language competence if:

you have studied for 5 years in an English speaking country.

you have completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV OR higher level course in an Australian Education Provider under a student visa.

you have successfully completed a foundation course in Australia

you have successfully completed the College English Placement Test.

you have successfully completed your High School or higher tertiary qualification in English Language

Internship or Work Placement

PCBT will Support Certificate III in Solid Plastering – CPC31020 Students in Finding Work Placements to Complete 360 Hours in terms 3-8 (Note: Students must abide by PCBT Code of Conduct).

Work placements are organised by PCBT College. Host work placement facilities are fully briefed by PCBT’s qualified tiling trainer on the supervision and support requirements when hosting our student.
