Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

Course Structure

Students must complete the following 15 units of competency to achieve this qualification:

Core Units:

  1. CHCCCS031 Provide individualised support
  2. CHCCCS038 Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
  3. CHCCCS040 Support independence and wellbeing
  4. CHCCCS041 Recognise healthy body systems
  5. CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  6. CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  7. CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
  8. HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
  9. HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Elective Units:

  1. CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia
  2. CHCAGE013 Work effectively in aged care
  3. CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach
  4. CHCDIS011 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
  5. CHCDIS012 Support community participation and social inclusion
  6. CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support

Minimum Age to Apply
Students must be over 18 years of age.
Academic Entry Requirements
Students must undergo a working police check and have a valid blue card before undertaking work
placement. For further information, please visit bluecard.qld.gov.au.
It is recommended, although not mandatory that students have the following immunisations: Influenza, Measles, Rubella (German measles), Chickenpox (varicella), Hepatitis A, Mumps, Whooping cough
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum)
ASMI will accept test results from the following specified English language tests for student visa purposes taken in any country:
• The TOEFL Paper-Based Test (TOEFL PBT)
• Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic
• Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test (also known as Certificate in Advanced English).
Students are required to reach a minimum level of English: IELTS 5.5 (with no individual band less than 5.0) or TOEFL 530 or ISLPR 2+. For further advice or assistance, please contact the International Student Manager.
