Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of support workers who provide person -centred care to people in aged care or disability care in a community and/or residential setting.

Our course has been designed to meet the requirements for the CHC33015 Certificate III In Individual Support with one specialisation option– Ageing


It contains 13 Units; 15 Core units and 3 Elective units:

DELIVERY  STRUCTURE

Delivery is a combination of methods to cover the theory and practice requirements:


Workshops for developing your theory knowledge such as anatomy and medications and care plans.

Supplementary learning online for each unit in theory and skills and case studies.

Demonstrations then practice in simulation areas and using manual handling equipment to give you that valuable practice time before you go to the work place.

Self-paced study and support to embed your learning and practical skills.

Work placements of 120 hours to apply your skills.

You will be trained in the use of manual handling equipment and other equipment such as:


Lifting hoist, Stand up Lifter, Pelican Belt, Slide Sheet, Electric bed, & Wheelchair.

Blood sugar testing equipment, Blood Pressure, Pulse Oximeter etc.

Medication Trolley, Medications (Dummy), & Dressing Trolley.

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Minimum Age to Apply This course is designed for international students. You must be over eighteen years old.
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum)
IELTS 5.5 overall, no less than 5.0 in each band, or upper intermediate, or EAP from approved ELICOS/ESL centre
Any AQF qualification at the Certificate III level or above in any discipline area delivered and assessed in English only will be deemed as meeting both the academic and English language entry requirements.

Internship or Work Placement

Work Placement at an Aged Care facility is arranged with you to make this a rewarding experience. Our work placement coordinator will assist you. We have arrangements in place with different facilities. There is plenty of time to set up a work placement that will suit each student as you do not go out to placement till the last stage of the course We coordinate the 15 days (that is the required 120 hours of placement) ideally for a 3-week block of work experience in the final term.


When you are on placement, Mercury College staff and Assessor visit you and the supervisor. For work placement, students have to wear your own black trousers and black closed shoes, we will provide you with a T-shirt.
