Course Overview

The Certificate III in Individual Support is a qualification that provides students with the ability to support patients who are in nursing homes, hospitals or clinics due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Workers will be expected to perform a range of tasks which may include: following care plans to provide care to clients, assisting with personal care (showering, bathing, shaving, toileting, oral hygiene, dressing), assisting with meals and feeding, assisting clients to move around, assisting with lifting and turning clients who are immobile or confined to bed and communicating with families.


The job role requires a person who is patient, has good communication skills, uses discretion and judgement, has a commitment to the rights of the elderly and disabled people to live dignified lives and who takes responsibility for their own outputs.

Course Structure

This qualification is made up of 13 units of competency (subjects):

  • 7 Core units – Units you must complete as part of the qualification
  • 6 Elective units – Alana Kaye College have chosen the elective units that we believe are the most beneficial and relevant to the majority of students

Admission Requirements
Minimum Age to Apply International students must be of 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) Evidence of an IELTS score of 5.5 or above, or it's equivalent must be shown.

Internship or Work Placement

It is a requirement that students complete 120 hours of work placement (to be satisfactorily signed off by your Work Supervisor and your Alana Kaye Assessor).

In addition, the work placement must be completed in a community service organisation that is within 50 kms of an Alana Kaye College campus.

You must have a police check and have completed First Aid before commencing work placement (we will assist you with this upon arrival in Australia).
