Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of pathology collectors. Workers in this role follow known routines and procedures, taking responsibility for their own work under general supervision. They combine communication, customer service and technical skills, and use discretion and judgment to adapt and transfer their skills to different situations.


Course Structure

This course has a total of 14 units of competency, including the following 9 core units and an additional 5 elective units.

  1. CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  2. CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  3. HLTPAT001 Identify and respond to clinical risks in pathology collection
  4. HLTPAT002 Perform venous blood collections
  5. HLTPAT004 Collect pathology specimens other than blood
  6. HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
  7. BSBCUS201 Deliver a service to customers
  8. BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
  9. HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures

Entry Requirement

Admission Requirements
Academic Entry Requirements Have completed equivalent secondary schooling level of Australian Year 12.
Minimum Age to Apply Must be 18 years of age or older.
Language Requirement
IELTS Score (Minimum) For students whose first language is not English, a valid IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent is required.
